Paragliding, Paramotor, and Skydive: Which One is for You?

We compare the three major air sports in detail. Experience type, duration, price, fear factor, and decision guide.
Paragliding, Paramotor, and Skydive: Which One is for You?
You want to take to the skies but don't know which one to choose. That's normal — because all three are spectacular in different ways. In this article, I compare paragliding, paramotor, and skydive from every angle. By the end, finding the most suitable one for you will be much easier.
Short Definitions
Paragliding:
Launching by running from a high hill, soaring with thermal currents, gliding for a long time with a parachute. Wind and thermal dependent, motorless, silent flight.
Paramotor:
Motorized takeoff from flat ground, a propeller and motor on your back, a glider above you. You can turn the motor on and off — you can go in any direction you want.
Skydive:
Ascending to 4,000 meters by plane, freefall (50-60 seconds, ~200 km/h), deploying the parachute, and gliding down to land.
Detailed Comparison
Experience Type
Paragliding: Gliding like a bird. Calm, meditative, in touch with nature. When you rise with thermal currents, you truly feel like a bird. Silence — there is only the sound of the wind. Many describe this experience as a "peaceful flight."
Paramotor: Like flying a motorcycle. There is engine noise, making you feel in control (even though the pilot manages it in tandem). Flying low along the coast is a distinct pleasure. It gives more of an "adventure" feeling.
Skydive: Pure adrenaline. Fighting the wind for the first 50 seconds, 200 km/h speed, intense energy. Then a soft landing with the parachute. A short but highly intense experience. It might be the most intense 1 minute you will ever experience in your life.
Duration and Intensity
| Activity | Airtime | Intense part | Calm part |
|---|---|---|---|
| Paragliding | 20-40 minutes | First 30 sec (takeoff) | All the remaining flight |
| Paramotor | 15-30 minutes | Takeoff + low flight | High flight |
| Skydive | 6-8 minutes | 50 sec freefall | 5-7 min parachute descent |
✅ Longest flight: Paragliding
✅ Most intense experience: Skydive
✅ Most balanced mix: Paramotor
Fear Factor
I will be very honest here:
Paragliding fear level: 4/10
Takeoff is smooth — you run and suddenly your feet leave the ground. There is no sensation of falling. Most people say, "Is that it? It's so easy." Your pilot is right next to you, everything is controlled. Even those with a fear of heights are usually comfortable.
Paramotor fear level: 5/10
The engine noise can be unsettling at first. At the moment of takeoff, the propeller is spinning behind you. Unlike paragliding, taking off from flat ground feels more "mechanical." But once you get in the air, you relax.
Skydive fear level: 8/10
When the plane door opens — that moment is tough. Really tough. There is a world 4,000 meters below, and you are going to jump from there. But after you jump, the fear disappears and is replaced by euphoria. Psychologically the most challenging activity, but the result is the most rewarding.

| Max. weight | 110-120 kg | 100-110 kg | 90-100 kg |
*Health condition must be suitable
✅ With kids: Paragliding is by far the most suitable
✅ With elderly family members: Paragliding
✅ For heavier individuals: Paragliding offers the widest range
Weather Dependency
Paragliding: Highly dependent. Wind direction and strength, thermal activity, rain — all affect the flight. The activity with the highest cancellation rate.
Paramotor: Moderately dependent. Because it has a motor, it can fly against the wind, but it is cancelled in strong winds and rain.
Skydive: Dependent but different. The cloud base must be high enough, and the wind must be at an acceptable level. But it can be done even in light wind.

For Those Who Want to Do All Three
If you are on holiday in Alanya and have 3-5 days, you can try all three. Our recommended order:
Day 1: Paragliding — A gentle introduction to the sky
Day 2: Paramotor — Expand the experience with motorized flight
Day 3: Skydive — Gather all your courage and reach the peak
This sequence gradually prepares you for more intense experiences. As Flynow, we offer triple packages — much more advantageous than buying them separately.
Final Word
All three are magnificent. All three can change your life. But in different ways.
Paragliding makes you a bird. Paramotor makes you a pilot. Skydive makes you a hero.
Whichever you choose, once you look from the sky, your perspective on the world changes. Everyone who experiences this says the same thing.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Can I do all three on the same day?
Technically, you can fit paragliding and paramotor into the same day. But we recommend reserving skydive for a separate day. It is an intense experience both physically and psychologically, and if you want to do it justice, you should be well-rested.
Which one is safer?
All three are safe when done with professional teams. Statistically, paragliding is the most experienced aerial sport with the lowest accident rate. But safety in any activity depends on the professionalism of the operator.
Which one can pregnant women do?
Unfortunately, we do not recommend any of them. Sudden pressure changes, G-force, and the pressure of harnesses on the abdominal area can pose risks. We look forward to welcoming you after childbirth!
I wear glasses, will it be a problem?
Not a problem for any of them. Protective goggles are provided in all three. You can also use contact lenses.
Which one can be done in winter?
Since winters are mild in Alanya, paragliding can be done even between November and March (if weather conditions are suitable). Paramotor is similar. Skydive is more limited in winter.
