Paragliding in Alanya: A Guide to the Take-off Site
Alanya makes people think of sea, sand and sun — but there is also the sky. The question we get most often from people who want to see this Mediterranean town from above is simple: "So where do we launch from?"
This article gives a clear answer. We have flown thousands of flights from this site over the years, and everything you need to know is here — the altitude, the landing field, how you get there and how transfers work.
Alanya's Commercial Take-off Site: Yunus Hill (700 m)
Commercial tandem paragliding flights in Alanya launch from the Yunus Hill take-off site. At 700 metres, it is an excellent spot with a panoramic view over the whole town.
One point to clear up: online you may see other places around Alanya described as "flying sites". Some of those are areas used by experienced solo pilots and are not open to commercial tandem flights. We fly our guests from one site, and the reason is simple — it is the most reliable area in the region in terms of wind and landing safety.
Yunus Hill at a Glance
- 🏔️ Altitude: 700 metres
- ⏱️ Flight time: 15-25 minutes, depending on conditions
- 🌊 View: the Alanya coastline, the Mediterranean panorama, the silhouette of the Taurus Mountains
- 🚗 Access: about 20-25 minutes by road from central Alanya
- 📅 Season: almost all year round, weather permitting
Why Yunus Hill?
In terms of wind and thermal behaviour, Yunus Hill is the most suitable take-off site in Alanya. The launch faces the sea, to the south, so the south-southwesterly sea breeze arrives as a headwind and creates excellent launch conditions. The wide field of view out over the water means an uninterrupted Mediterranean panorama for the whole flight.
Seven hundred metres is an ideal height for a tandem: high enough for a genuinely enjoyable flight, and controlled enough to keep a comfortable window for take-off and landing.
What the Launch Is Like
When you arrive at the site your pilot gives you a short briefing. The equipment is checked and the wind is assessed. When you are ready, a few running steps are all it takes — the wing lifts you smoothly into the air.
As you leave Yunus Hill, the Alanya coastline opens out in front of you with the heavy silhouette of the Taurus Mountains behind. On a clear day you can see as far as Gazipaşa.
The landmarks you will pass over:
- Alanya Castle — 13th-century walls on top of the peninsula
- Cleopatra Beach — the town's strip of golden sand
- The Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) — the octagonal Seljuk tower that marks the harbour
- The Taurus Mountains — the range running along to the north
The Landing Field
Landing is at a designated field on the Alanya seafront, right beside Cleopatra Beach — a soft landing by the water. Landing in the middle of a town is not a common privilege in paragliding, and it is one of the things people love most about flying here.
After landing, a transfer takes you back to your hotel or into the town centre.
Transfers
- ✅ Within Alanya: free transfer from every hotel and address
- ⚠️ Outside Alanya (Manavgat, Serik, Antalya): an additional transfer fee applies
You do not need to drive to the launch yourself — and we do not recommend it. The mountain road is narrow, and because take-off and landing are in different places, your car would end up at the wrong end of the flight.
Looking for a Different View? Our Other Regions
Having one launch site in Alanya does not mean you have no choice. If you want a different altitude or a different landscape, look at our other regions:
- Tahtalı (2,365 m) — one of the highest commercial tandem launches in Turkey
- Ölüdeniz / Babadağ (1,960 m) — one of the best-known flying sites in the world
- Adrasan (1,000 m) — the untouched bays of the Lycian coast
- Uzungöl (1,100 m) — Black Sea highlands, an entirely different landscape
Each has its own character, and a day trip to one of them during your Alanya holiday is perfectly possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are there other take-off sites in Alanya?
Not for commercial tandem flights. Yunus Hill is the only site in Alanya suitable for tandems. The other areas nearby are used by experienced solo pilots.
How do we get to the take-off site?
FlyNow Turkey collects you by vehicle at an agreed point and drives you up to the launch. You do not need your own car.
How long do we wait at the take-off site?
Usually 10-15 minutes. The briefing, the equipment check and the launch preparation all fit into that.
Is 700 metres high enough?
More than enough. Seven hundred metres gives an enjoyable 15-25 minute tandem flight. Higher sites give longer flights, but that does not make them safer — safety is determined by the conditions and the pilot's experience, not by altitude.
Where do we land — in the sea?
No. Landing is at a designated field on land by the seafront. Landing in the water is not a planned manoeuvre.
Can I also fly from Tahtalı or Ölüdeniz on the same day?
Technically possible, but rarely a good idea. Each flight takes 2-3 hours including transfer and preparation, and those regions are a few hours from Alanya. If you want to fly from two regions, plan them on separate days.
